The outlet states that on behalf of the Government of Minas Gerais, the State Coordination of Civil Defense (Cedec) penned a statement confirming that the 28-year-old victim had exited a vehicle after the storm flooded it.

In the video, Martins and her husband, Wallison Lima, are seen clinging to the car as deep, rushing waters surround them. An unidentified woman who poked out of a nearby window attempted to help the couple by extending a ladder toward them.

Loosely translated into English, the outlet’s message clarified that while Lima was rescued, Martins was not.

November 27, the heartbroken husband shared an Instagram video in which he addressed Martins’ passing.

After greeting his followers and noting how challenging it was for him to make a video about the tragedy, Lima explained that the only reason he made the video was out of respect for those offering condolences.

He went on to extend his gratitude for all the messages of support and prayers for Martins that have been sent his way and apologized to the people he hasn’t been able to respond to.

“I came to make this video here in respect for her because I know that she wanted me to do it,” explained Lima in Portuguese.

He apologized for how he was speaking, explaining that while he wanted to say more, Martins would have wanted him to handle it the way he did.

Lima then highlighted the fact that he and Martins had been together for years before stating, “And God comforts the heart of everyone who takes the time to send a message, to say a prayer, okay?”

The widower also addressed people who have been “talking nonsense,” potentially about the tragedy. “I just have to ask God to bless your life too, because you don’t know what I’m going through here. What are you talking about?” he asserted.

Martins and Lima were married for over a decade before she passed away. Posts shared by both of them show how deep their love was for one another. One such post comes from Lima, who penned a sweet dedication to his late wife to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

The picture, shared on April 20, 2021, shows the duo smiling at each other. Lima was dressed in a classy black and white tuxedo with a bowtie, and Martins donned a white dress, and a matching tiara and held onto a bouquet of blue flowers.

“I love you, my little life, Felixxx [sic]. Another year together as husband and wife! ❤️. Today we celebrate a total of 14 years of much love, affection, respect, and reciprocity together. I love you ❤️. May God bless us more and more always […]❤️♥️🥰🙏🏼 ,” reads Martins’ caption.
